Sporadic holidays on the out - Aussies are booking well in advance

Online travel agency, travel.com.au reveals Australians are more organised than you think when it comes to booking a holiday.

travel.com.au's survey of over 2,200 people shows almost half of us are booking domestic flights one to three months in advance. The most common booking period for overseas flights is four to six months before the trip.

General Manager of travel.com.au, Renee Welsh believes this early booking trend is due to the busy lives consumers lead and the value people see in early-bird specials.

"Our lives are very demanding. The busier we are, the more we need to plan – particularly when it comes to travel," Renee said.

"For the majority, going on a holiday means taking time off work and this often requires forward planning. Add to that, if you're a parent, you need to factor in the children as well," she added.

Planning in advance also benefits the wallet. With uncertainty around the economy still looming, Renee says she's not surprised that price is the driving force behind our travel bookings.

"60 per cent of Aussies voted price as the number one influencer when booking a holiday. Interestingly, only 12 per cent voted reviews as an influential factor when deciding where and how to travel," she said.
